I called Precision Garage Door on the sage advice of "Garage Logic". Looking back at my history with GL’s podcast's advertisers, I should've known better; they're all about the luxury, at luxury prices. $85 service fee if you don't agree to their outrageous repair quote! The sales/service technician who graced my doorstep promptly informed me that Precision doesn't service Wayne Dalton TorqueMaster counterbalance systems - which, of course, was exactly what I had. I should've called it quits right there and called Crawford Door, but the $85 trip charge had me by the wallet, and I'd been garage-door-less for 72 hours during Minnesota Winter. So, in a moment of desperation and utter stupidity , I agreed to a counterbalance system overhaul to a "conventional system" - for a cool $1300. Once I gave the green light, the work was done with surprising speed, and the materials seemed decent enough. The new system comes with a lifetime guarantee, but let's be real, not even a lifetime of garage door opening will make up for that price tag. And just when I thought I'd seen it all, they hit me with a $40 fee for the audacity of not carrying enough cash or checks. If money is no object - or if you just enjoy funding artisanal garage door repairs and installations - by all means, give Precision Garage Door of the Twin Cities a call.

Beware of high pressure salesmen offering "deals" if you buy into high performance parts/services that are un-necessary. I was given an estimate of $200-$300 to replace the springs then talked into a job that cost over $800. Two weeks after the spring installation the rollers came off track so I disputed the charge & they refunded 1/2 the bill but took away the warranty. Recently, a cable was thrown and I was told by another technician that the springs were installed incorrectly. Now I have another $800 repair .

This is the 3rd time I’ve used Precision. At my old house it was for 2 upgrades and this last time was the first issue in my new house. Hopefully I won’t have to use anyone else! My garage door spring snapped right when I was leaving to pick my son up from school. They were able to get to me same day and had it replaced in 45 minutes. Other companies wanted to charge a $400 emergency fee for coming same day. I have recommended Precision to everyone I know.

Remarkably fast service. An appointment was available 6 hrs after I called. Patrick arrived at 4 pm, performed the inspection and was very clear about repairs and replacement options.
